Residential Wastewater
Residential wastewater is the waste stream that comes from a Residence, and is generally considered to be "low strength". From a technical standpoint, this is wastewater that is below a certain Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD, 5 Day test) reading of 140 mg/liter. In non-technical terms, this is what "average" household systems generate. If you generate higher wastes (in home business, use of a lot of light oils in cooking, etc.), then your system may be generating a higher strength sewage, which can lead to failure of your treatment system, as well as your disposal field. It is very important to operate your system within the design limits of when it was originally planned and permitted.
The State Code for such a waste stream is considered the bare minimum, in terms of treatment capacity, for onsite sewage facilities (often called "septic tanks" or "septic systems").
